Just got word that early this morning, on Saturday, October 15, around 9:35 AM, the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District received a call about a structure fire in the 2000 block of Route 176. When the firefighters arrived on the scene just three minutes later, they found a large two-story abandoned house completely engulfed in flames.
Thanks to their quick response, the fire was brought under control within an hour. However, the firefighters stayed on-site for another two hours to ensure all hotspots were extinguished and to conduct necessary overhaul procedures. Unfortunately, the house has been declared a total loss, and as of now, there are no preliminary damage estimates available. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries to either civilians or firefighters during the incident.
Both the Nunda Rural FPD and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office are actively working together to investigate the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire. It’s always reassuring to see how well these departments collaborate during such situations.
I also want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible support we received from neighboring fire districts. Their assistance was invaluable in helping us manage this challenging situation.
