Hey everyone, I just wanted to share what happened this morning. At around 9:35 AM on Saturday, October 15th, we got a call about a structure fire in the 2000 block of Route 176. Our team was on the scene within just 3 minutes, and when we arrived, we found a large two-story abandoned house that was completely engulfed in flames. It was definitely intense.
By the time we had things under control, which took about an hour, the whole building was pretty much gone. After that, we stayed on-site for another couple of hours to make sure there weren’t any hidden hotspots or anything like that. Unfortunately, the house is a total loss, and we don’t have any preliminary damage estimates yet. Thankfully, though, there were no injuries—neither among the civilians nor our firefighters. That's always the top priority.
Right now, the Nunda Rural FPD and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office are actively looking into what caused this fire and trying to figure out exactly how it started. It’s still early days for the investigation, but we’re hopeful we’ll get some answers soon.
I also want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for the help we received from neighboring districts. Fires like this can be overwhelming, and having their support made all the difference today.
