Working fire in Chicago, 2-21-22

I just got back from covering a massive scrapyard fire that broke out on Monday at 4430 West 14th Street. Engine 103 was the first unit on the scene, responding after being dispatched to a carbon monoxide call at a residence on the 3800 block while Engine 38 was busy tackling a separate fire on the 1400 block of Avers Avenue. As Engine 103 arrived, Engine 113 quickly took position to assist by supplying water to support the operation. Squad 1 also joined the effort, working to control the blaze among the towering piles of scrap metal. The firefighting resources committed to the incident included Engine 103 and Engine 113 for active suppression, Truck 19 and Truck 26 for ventilation and overhaul duties, Squad 1 for specialized operations, along with Battalion Chief 18 overseeing the response. The district commander, 2-2-4, was also present to coordinate efforts. It was quite an intense scene, with firefighters working tirelessly under challenging conditions.
