From what I’ve heard from Dan McInerney, last week MABAS Division 11 put together a big Blue Card exercise at the Cicero Fire Department's training tower. It was quite the event—teams from across Division 11 came together to practice some basic fireground operations, with a strong focus on radio communication protocols. Even though it rained most of the day and the skies were overcast, which wasn’t ideal for photography, I still managed to snap a few shots.
One of the standout units was North Riverside’s Truck 806. It’s always impressive to see how these trucks are maintained and prepared for action. The picture really captures the essence of what they bring to the table in terms of capability and readiness. Dan McInerney did a fantastic job capturing the detail and precision involved.
Another unit that caught my eye was Forest Park’s Engine 401. This rig looked sharp and ready for anything. Dan’s photo highlights the clean lines and functionality of the vehicle, showcasing just how well-equipped they are to handle any emergency situation.
Berwyn’s Engine 903 also stood out. It’s clear that they take pride in their equipment, and the image really reflects that. The Cicero Fire Department’s Ladder 2 is something else entirely. There’s a series of photos showcasing this ladder truck, each one providing a different perspective. You can see the complexity of the equipment and how it’s maintained at such a high standard. Dan’s eye for detail really shines through in these images.
There was also a shot of the Suburban Cook County EOC center rig. While I don’t have all the details about this vehicle, it’s clear that it plays a crucial role in emergency management. Dan’s photograph gives a good sense of its purpose and functionality.
Inside the training tower, members of the Cicero Fire Department were practicing on the forcible entry simulator. Watching them work through the exercises was inspiring. They clearly take their training seriously, and Dan McInerney’s photo captures the intensity and focus of the moment.
Finally, there were several other images from the drill that caught my attention. Firefighters preparing to enter the tower, two firemen climbing the ladder of Berwyn T904, and a group gathering between exercises—all these moments were expertly captured by Dan. His work adds a personal touch to the event, making it feel more real and relatable.
Overall, it was a productive day filled with learning and camaraderie. These drills are essential for maintaining readiness, and the photos really tell the story of how committed everyone is to being prepared for whatever comes their way.
