Larry Shapiro sent this update:
This morning at around 10:30, Buffalo Grove's police and firefighters were called to a garage fire at 630 Woodhollow Lane. As emergency units were leaving their stations, they could already see smoke rising from the area. When they arrived, flames were bursting out of the garage, spreading quickly to the house. The situation was immediately upgraded to a Code 4 working fire. It was reported that someone, last seen inside the garage, was unaccounted for. Firefighters bravely moved in to tackle the blaze and searched the premises for the missing person. Despite their efforts, the intense fire and extreme heat made it nearly impossible to locate the individual in time. Unfortunately, the person did not survive.
Buffalo Grove received assistance from neighboring departments including Long Grove, Arlington Heights, Libertyville, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Lake Forest, and Wheeling. Throughout the firefighting operation, there was a significant challenge when a water main broke nearby, flooding the adjacent street.
Attached are some images taken by Larry Shapiro that capture the intensity of the scene. The photos show the massive flames consuming the garage and spreading to the house, highlighting the severity of the situation. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to control the fire and ensure everyone’s safety.
Here is a summary of the response effort:
- Initial callout: 10:30 AM
- Fire spread from garage to house
- Search conducted for missing person
- Assistance provided by multiple neighboring towns
- Water supply issues due to broken main
The community is deeply saddened by the loss of life and grateful for the dedication of all first responders involved. Please keep the family of the victim and all those who helped in your thoughts and prayers.
