At approximately 12:20 PM on November 25, 2022, the Bolingbrook Fire Department received an emergency call reporting a vehicle that had fallen into the water at the boat launch near Whalon Lake. Initial 911 calls suggested there might be two people inside the vehicle. Fortunately, the driver managed to get out of the car themselves and was rescued by police officers before firefighters arrived on the scene. When the Bolingbrook FD got there, they discovered the vehicle completely submerged roughly 100 feet offshore. A dive team was quickly mobilized, and divers from MABAS 16 departments began searching the area. With the help of a boat and a drone, along with sonar technology, the vehicle was eventually located underwater. After about three hours of intense efforts following the firefighters' arrival, the submerged car was finally pulled out of the lake. No additional occupants were found inside. The driver was subsequently transported by the Naperville FD to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
I happened to capture some images during this incident, which I've included below. These photos give a glimpse into the challenging conditions faced by first responders as they worked tirelessly to ensure everyone’s safety.

The situation was certainly tense, but thanks to the coordinated efforts between various emergency services, the outcome could have been far worse. It’s always a reminder of how critical teamwork is when dealing with emergencies like these.
