House fire in Lemont, 5-25-14

This report comes from Eric Haak:

Fire crews were called to a house fire just before 1:00 PM on Sunday afternoon in the 300 block of Division Street in Lemont, IL. Upon arrival, heavy fire was already burning in Sector C, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a full-blown structural fire. The interior was filled with a large amount of clutter, making it difficult for firefighters to reach the source of the fire. Interior lines were deployed, along with an exterior line targeting Sector C to access the second floor.

The fire eventually spread to the attic space in both the two-story and one-story sections of the home. Firefighters were ordered to retreat from the building and shift to a defensive position. Lemont Engine 921’s deck gun, Tri-State’s tower ladder, and Lemont Truck 949 were brought into action, and the remaining fire in the attic was quickly brought under control. Although the home was occupied, the owner had left and returned to find the entire residence a total loss.

Oxygen generator

The air we breathe is about 21% oxygen. Oxygen for industrial use is generated by separating oxygen molecules from the other molecules within a clean, dry compressed air stream. Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) is a simple, reliable and cost-effective technology that enables continuous, high-capacity oxygen flow at the desired level of purity. Adsorption happens when atoms, ions or molecules from a substance (compressed air in this case) adhere to a surface of an adsorbent. PSA technology isolates oxygen molecules from other molecules (nitrogen, CO2, water vapor and trace gases) to leave high purity oxygen at the outlet of the generator. The process takes place in two separate pressure vessels (tower A and tower B), each filled with a carbon molecular sieve, that switch between a separation process and a regeneration process.
