Sinopec has mature PTA technology

Recently, Yangzi Petrochemical's PTA energy-saving renovation process design package was reviewed by the Sinopec Group of Experts. According to experts, this PTA complete set of technology, which has declared 48 national patents and 26 authorizations, and filled a number of achievements to fill domestic gaps, already possesses industrialized conversion conditions and is expected to be applied to industrial production as soon as possible.
The implementation of this technology will not only greatly reduce the energy consumption and energy consumption of Yangzi Petrochemical PTA's old devices, but also increase the technical content of the devices. It also indicates that Sinopec has matured PTA complete sets of technologies with independent intellectual property rights.
For a long time, the Chinese petrochemical industry has always been taking the road of introduction. Taking the PTA device as an example, since the beginning of the development of the polyester industry in China in the late 1970s, nearly 20 sets of PTA devices have been built one after another, basically by introducing foreign patented technologies. In order to change the passive situation in which technology is controlled by people, in early 2000, PTA's domestically-developed technology development projects were listed as Sinopec's “Ten Long” research projects, and Yangzi Petrochemical was the team leader of the PTA complete technology development project.
The Yangzi Petrochemical PTA plant introduced US patented technology in 1978 and was completed and put into operation in 1989. It was the largest 450,000-ton/year PTA plant in China at the time. After being put into operation, Yangzi Petrochemical conducted continuous technical research and reconstruction of PTA installations. In 1995, after reaching the standard of equipment, Yangzi Petrochemical launched the first round of PTA expansion and reconstruction with a capacity of 450,000 tons/year to 600,000 tons/year, which formed 16 patented technologies and a number of proprietary technologies. The project achievements won the first prize of China Petrochemical Science and Technology Progress Award.
After the completion of the transformation, through joint research and technological innovation, the largest annual output of the PTA plant of Yangzi Petrochemical exceeded 700,000 tons, ranking first in China.
In 2000, after receiving the task of localization development of PTA complete sets of technology, Yangzi Petrochemical and Sinopec Engineering Construction Company, Shanghai Pharmaceutical Industrial Design Institute, East China University of Science and Technology and Nanjing University of Technology immediately established a PTA led by the leader of the team. The complete set of technical research and leadership teams and related task forces have tracked, collated, compared and analyzed foreign PTA patented technologies, and conducted research on domestic imported devices to determine the direction of PTA's domestic technology. By the end of 2003, basic research, engineering research and supporting research work on large-scale PTA complete sets of technologies were completed one after another and passed expert appraisals from Sinopec. After that, Yangzi Petrochemical paid close attention to the technical development trend of the international PTA industry, and continued to enrich the content of the large-scale PTA complete set of technological development projects with each collaborating unit, making its own PTA complete set of technologies increasingly perfect.
In 2004, the State Council approved Yangzi Petrochemical's new 450,000-ton/year PTA production line project in the original PTA plant. When negotiating with foreign companies, foreign companies that have learned that China has already produced large-scale PTA localized technological achievements have taken the initiative to make concessions, which has reduced the cost of imported patents for new production lines by 30%.
After the expansion of the equipment scale, due to historical reasons such as mismatched equipment and process, material consumption and energy consumption are too high to become bottlenecks in the competition of PTA technologies. If the introduction of technology to transform existing devices, not only to pay a considerable amount of patent fees, but also to repeat the "introduction - backward - re-introduction - then backward" road. To this end, Sinopec sent a team of experts to consult with Yangzi Petrochemical's PTA and negotiate an improvement plan.
In early 2005, Yangzi Petrochemical confirmed the general idea of ​​“combining intension and extension, cultivating core competitiveness, and taking the road of sustainable development” according to the “prescription” of upgrading and transforming with energy-saving technologies initiated by the Sinopec Group of Experts. We decided to fully rely on existing technologies and equipment and implement the “Yangtze Petrochemical PTA plant energy-saving renovation process package development” project that focuses on energy saving and consumption reduction and improving economic and technical indicators. With the close cooperation of Sinopec Engineering Construction Corporation, East China University of Science and Technology and Nanjing University of Technology, after more than a year of research and development in June 2006, Yangzi Petrochemical successfully completed the development of a PTA plant energy-saving retrofit package. The test data shows that after the application of the technology package, the PTA energy consumption will be reduced from 280 kg standard oil/ton to 150 kg standard oil/ton. If it is put into industrial applications, only this Yangzi Petrochemical PTA plant can save nearly RMB 300 million in cost every year. We hope to accelerate the application of this technology in future work.
