According to sources from the *Financial Times*, British Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson has advised against imposing anti-dumping duties on Chinese air compressors. However, the trade commissioners from Italy, Germany, and France strongly opposed this suggestion, attempting to block it. This disagreement highlights growing economic concerns among these nations, as they become more protective of their domestic industries amid slowing growth. The three countries have called for a full discussion among all 27 EU trade commissioners tomorrow. Mandelson, however, warned that such measures could be counterproductive, potentially harming European consumers and businesses in the long run.
Earlier, the *Wall Street Journal* reported that the EU regulator had decided not to impose punitive tariffs on Chinese compressed air products and would also terminate the ongoing investigation into these items.
Currently, there are indications that Chinese air compressor manufacturers are selling their products in the EU at prices below market value. However, after thorough analysis, EU regulators have suggested that even if tariffs are imposed, Chinese companies may still gain market share due to their cost advantages over local competitors.
