On February 27, 2016, the US Bureau of Tire Refurbishment and Maintenance Information (TRIB) publicly stated that it supports the “double reverse†investigation of Chinese imported passenger car tires.
The agency emphasized that the continued increase in low-quality imported tires has already had a negative impact on the U.S. market and the U.S. environment.
It is reported that TRIB is working with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to investigate the negative impact of imported tires on the US retreaded tire market. â€
TRIB did not reveal the cooperation with ITC and did not testify at the recent hearing held by the US Department of Commerce.
However, the agency said that China's imports of low-quality card and passenger car tires, which are sold at prices lower than the cost of raw materials, are affecting the US refurbishment market.
Typically, retreaded tires can save 30% to 60% of the cost compared to new commercial truck tires.
David Stevens, Managing Director of TRIB, said: “A lot of low-priced imported tires are of poor quality and cannot be renewed. Therefore, these disposable tires cannot only be recycled many times, but also cause diseases.â€
He said that in the short term, these inferior imported tires may have saved costs, "but in the long run, it will have a negative impact on our retreaded tire market and the truck and bus tire industry."
David Stevens believes that these imported tires create very little value, but they can threaten the employment of thousands of workers in the United States, and cause great pollution to the environment.
"We will work hard to ensure that the U.S. retread market is not affected by the dumping of foreign products," he said.
