The first domestically developed 250-mm-diameter two-way cartridge valve, created by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's 701 Haiyue Company, has been successfully applied in a key project aimed at enhancing equipment performance. Recently, the device passed user acceptance, marking a significant milestone in domestic hydraulic technology.
This achievement builds upon the previous success of 704 Haiyue Company, which developed the hydraulic hoist system for the Three Gorges Project Ship Lock—the world's largest shiplock. The successful development of the fluid return control valve group represents another major step forward in the research and development of large and medium-sized electrohydraulic control systems.
The flush return control valve group utilizes a 250-mm two-way cartridge valve, which is twice the size of the 125-mm valves used in the Three Gorges permanent ship lock. This advanced valve allows precise control over oil pressure, flow, and direction, enabling the forging hammer to perform free fall and vertical lifting movements effectively. As a critical component in the development of a 3,000-ton hydraulic block forging machine for Liaoyang Heavy Industry Group, this valve group demands high technical standards, fast response times, and a high level of integration. With only a few domestic manufacturers capable of producing such a complex system, this technology was previously reliant on imports.
Haiyue Company has a long history in hydraulics, dating back to the 1980s when it produced China’s first two-way cartridge valve. Following its successful bid for the Three Gorges Permanent Ship Lock project, the company developed the hydraulic hoist system, which has now operated smoothly for over 1,865 days.
In early 2007, Haiyue Company was tasked with localizing supporting equipment for Liaoyang Heavy Industry Group. They developed two sets of flushing return control valves under tight deadlines—requiring delivery within three months. Normally, producing a 125-mm two-way cartridge valve would take about one and a half months. However, as the first system using a 250-mm valve, there were no existing models or data to refer to. This project presented a challenging combination of time constraints, heavy workload, and high technical demands.
To meet these challenges, Haiyue mobilized top engineers, managers, and experienced personnel from the hydraulic system manufacturing and debugging teams. Design, process, and production departments worked closely together, ensuring meticulous attention to every stage—from procurement to inspection. Through relentless effort, all key technologies were mastered, and both sets of equipment were delivered on time, passing final acceptance. In addition, the 701 Haiyue two-way cartridge valve has now established a complete range of supporting solutions, further strengthening its position in the industry.
