In a significant event held on October 20th, 138 enterprises in China's internal combustion engine industry were honored with the "100 Years of Achievement Award" by the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, the China Machinery Industry Federation, and the China Institute of Internal Combustion Engines. The ceremony took place at the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, marking a milestone in the development of this vital sector.
Jia Qinglin, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, sent a message of congratulations to all those who have contributed to the industry. He emphasized the importance of accelerating independent innovation, promoting energy conservation and emission reduction, and embracing the responsibility for sustainable development. His message highlighted the need for the industry to transition from being a major producer and consumer to a global manufacturing leader.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei and Zhang Guobao, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission and director of the Energy Bureau, attended the ceremony. They both expressed their support for the industry’s progress and its role in national development. Former leaders from the former Ministry of Machinery Industry, along with nearly 1,000 representatives from various sectors, also participated in the event.
Zhang Guobao, in his congratulatory letter, outlined the challenges and opportunities facing the internal combustion engine industry. He stressed the importance of enhancing independent innovation as a key strategy for improving competitiveness and ensuring sustainable growth. He also called for greater focus on resource conservation, energy efficiency, and environmental protection.
Yu Zhen, President of the China Machinery Industry Federation, praised the achievements made over the past century. He noted that the internal combustion engine remains a crucial part of China’s machinery industry, with wide applications in transportation, oil extraction, and other sectors. He pointed out that while the industry is experiencing rapid growth, it still faces challenges in terms of technology, management, and human resources.
Tan Xuguang, Chairman of the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, reviewed the industry's journey from being small and weak to becoming strong and self-reliant. He highlighted the challenges posed by market competition and technological upgrades, particularly in the areas of low-end diesel engines and high-power engines. He called for increased R&D efforts, improved energy efficiency, and stronger integration of information technology with industrialization.
The event served as a platform for industry leaders to discuss future strategies, emphasizing the need for innovation, sustainability, and a stronger global presence. As China continues to develop its internal combustion engine industry, the focus remains on building a more advanced, efficient, and environmentally friendly manufacturing base.
