In a significant event, 138 enterprises within China's internal combustion engine industry were honored with the "100 Years of Achievement Award" by the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, the China Machinery Industry Federation, and the China Institute of Internal Combustion Engines. The ceremony, held at the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference on October 20th, celebrated the remarkable progress made over the past century. Jia Qinglin, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, sent a message of congratulations to all those who have contributed to the development of the industry. He emphasized the importance of accelerating independent innovation, focusing on energy conservation and emission reduction, and taking responsibility for sustainable development and the circular economy. His message highlighted the need for China to transition from being a major producer and consumer of internal combustion engines to a global manufacturing powerhouse.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei attended the event, along with Zhang Guobao, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission and head of the Energy Bureau, who extended his congratulations on behalf of the commission. Former leaders of the former Ministry of Machinery Industry, including He Guangyuan, and nearly 1,000 representatives from various industries, enterprises, and research institutes also participated in the ceremony.
In his congratulatory letter, Zhang Guobao emphasized the challenges and opportunities facing the internal combustion engine industry. He stressed that improving independent innovation capabilities should be a central focus for structural adjustment and national competitiveness. He called for greater emphasis on resource conservation, energy efficiency, and environmental protection as key elements for long-term sustainability. He encouraged the industry to embrace the scientific concept of development and work towards revitalizing China's equipment manufacturing sector through continuous innovation.
Yu Zhen, president of the China Machinery Industry Federation, praised the achievements of the internal combustion engine industry over the past 100 years. He noted that the industry remains crucial for machinery and equipment, with its technologies widely applied in transportation and oil extraction. He pointed out that China is currently in a phase of rapid development, driven by economic growth, globalization, and the goal of building a moderately prosperous society. However, he also acknowledged the challenges, such as the need to improve product quality, technology, and management standards, and to enhance the industry's ability to withstand risks.
Tan Xuguang, chairman of the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, reflected on the industry's journey from modest beginnings to becoming a strong and influential sector. He highlighted the dual challenges of market competition and technological advancement. In the low-end diesel engine segment, many companies are struggling, while high-power diesel engines require urgent technological upgrades. He called for accelerated R&D efforts, stronger collaboration, and the establishment of national technical standards to support the industry's long-term development.
The new council aims to guide the industry toward more innovative and sustainable practices, focusing on energy efficiency, technological integration, and brand development. By embracing these strategies, China's internal combustion engine industry is poised to take a significant step forward in its quest to become a leading global player.
