Finland joins Methane Marketization Partnership Program

In late July, Finland joined the “Methane Marketization Partnership Program” and became the 26th member of the plan.
The plan was initiated by 14 countries including the United States in 2004. The goal is to reduce methane emissions and promote their recycling and utilization as clean energy. The plan focuses on four major sources of methane emissions: agriculture, coal mines, landfills, and oil and gas systems. Finland plans to join the Technical Committee of the "Methane Marketization Partnership Program" to share their expertise in biogas and landfill gas with other partners. Finland currently has biogas recovery facilities in its 332 landfills and provides financial assistance to farmers involved in methane recovery projects.
In March this year, European Commission Energy Commissioner Piebalgos signed relevant documents in Washington and announced that the EU officially joined the "Methane Marketization Partnership Program." Subsequently, Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Thailand also announced their participation in the plan. China is also a member of the plan.
