Volkswagen's new Mexican engine plant will have annual production capacity of 330,000 units


The Volkswagen Group recently held an inauguration ceremony for its newly built engine factory in Mexico. The plant is located in Silao, Mexico. After the operation, it will provide TSI engines for Volkswagen's automobile factories in Mexico and the United States.

Volkswagen CEO Martin Wendun said: “The Cirrus factory is the 100th factory of the Volkswagen Group and represents the largest and most international production network in the automotive industry. In the next three years, the Volkswagen Group will be alone in North America. With more than 5 billion U.S. dollars in funding, the Cirrus factory is also a symbol of the continued growth and continuous internationalization of the Volkswagen Group."

The North American market is an important part of the Volkswagen Group's global growth strategy. Through the Jetta, the Beatles, and the new Passat models tailored specifically for US customers, the company plans to achieve a target of 1 million vehicles in sales in the United States by 2018.

The Cirrus factory will provide the latest TSI engines for Volkswagen's car factories in Puebla, Mexico and Chattanooga, USA. The construction cost of the plant will reach US$550 million, and the medium-term design capacity will be 330,000 units. Engine/year and plans to create 700 new jobs.

The Volkswagen Puebla plant currently produces four models for the global market: Jetta, Golf Estate, Beetle and Beetle. The plant produced a total of 604,000 cars last year. In addition, Volkswagen has produced the Passat model from the Chattanooga plant in the United States since 2011. The factory's vehicle production reached 150,000 last year.
