   The screw air compressor is a volumetric gas compression machine that operates through rotary motion. The compression process relies on changes in volume, achieved by rotating a pair of intermeshing rotors within the casing.
The screw compressor consists of a pair of parallel, intermeshing negative and positive screws, which are widely used in rotary compressors..
2. Structural Characteristics of Marine Twin Screw Air Compressor
    The basic structure of the screw air compressor includes a pair of intermeshing spiral rotors arranged in parallel within the compressor body. The rotor with convex teeth is called the Yang rotor or the sun screw, while the one with concave teeth is referred to as the negative rotor or the negative screw. The Yang rotor is typically connected to the driving motor, and the last bearing on the rotor rotates axially, handling the axial force within the compressor. Cylindrical roller bearings at both ends of the rotor ensure radial positioning and bear the radial forces during operation. At both ends of the compressor body, specific holes are opened—one for suction and the other for exhaust.

SUCTION
   When the rotor rotates, the space between the tooth grooves of the Yin and Yang rotors is largest when they reach the intake end wall. At this point, the space is connected to the air inlet, and because the gas in the tooth groove has been fully discharged, the groove is in a vacuum state. As it moves toward the intake port, external air is drawn into the groove. Once the groove is filled, the intake end of the rotor moves away from the casing's air inlet, sealing the gas inside.
COMPRESS
   During the compression phase, the Yin and Yang rotors close the tooth tips with the casing once they complete the suction process, preventing gas from escaping. The meshing surface gradually moves toward the exhaust end, reducing the gap between the meshing surface and the exhaust port, thus increasing the pressure of the gas in the groove.
DISCHARGE
   In the discharge phase, when the meshing end of the rotor reaches the exhaust port of the casing, the compressed gas begins to be expelled until the meshing surface of the tooth tip and the groove moves to the exhaust end. At this point, the space between the meshing surface of the Yin and Yang rotors and the exhaust port is zero, completing the exhaust process. Meanwhile, the length of the groove between the meshing surface of the rotor and the air inlet of the casing is at its maximum, initiating the next suction cycle.
