**FPL Demonstrates Why Its Hurricane Response Goes Beyond Restoring Power**
**BRADENTON, Fla. —** After Hurricane Milton, students at Rowlett Academy returned to school after several days of disruption. On their first day back, they surprised FPL lineworkers with heartfelt, handmade cards expressing gratitude for the company’s efforts in restoring power to over two million customers.
In the aftermath of the storm, FPL mobilized hundreds of employees across Florida’s west coast to assist affected communities. From Charlotte County to Sarasota and Fort Myers Beach, crews worked tirelessly to provide essential supplies, meals, and support to those in need.
In Charlotte County, FPL participated in a grassroots initiative to deliver critical items like diapers and first aid kits to local families. In Sarasota, employees helped distribute meals to low-income seniors, while in Fort Myers Beach, the company partnered with local leaders to bring joy to neighborhoods through a snow cone truck event.
Linda Agresta, a transportation liaison for the Manatee County School District, was deeply moved by the community’s response. “It’s heartwarming to see people come together,†she said. “Knowing that the whole country is supporting us makes all the difference.â€
Milton, which made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Sarasota, caused widespread damage, including flooding, downed trees, and tornadoes. Despite these challenges, FPL crews worked around the clock to restore power to millions. At the same time, the company collaborated with nonprofits to offer additional support to those affected.
Pam Rauch, FPL’s vice president of external affairs and economic development, emphasized the importance of community engagement. “Our customers are always our top priority,†she said. “Offering aid after such a destructive storm is essential.â€
For lineworkers like Roger Ellis, the recognition from students meant everything. “It’s tough after two hurricanes in a row, but seeing the kids’ appreciation makes it all worth it,†he said. “That’s why we do what we do.â€
Over the past year, Floridians have faced four major hurricanes, each requiring extensive recovery efforts. FPL has consistently prioritized community support, deploying action teams and contributing to disaster relief funds.
As Agresta put it, “We are Florida strong. We will get through this.â€
