The latest update: Florida Power & Light (FPL) has restored electricity to more than 90% of customers affected by Hurricane Milton. The company is making significant progress and is on track to fully restore power to all schools by the end of today, helping communities recover faster. In addition, FPL has established customer relief centers in some of the hardest-hit areas, offering essential supplies like ice and water, as well as support for restoration inquiries. Crews are working around the clock, determined to bring power back to every customer.

Important note: Some homes or businesses may have suffered damage that prevents them from safely accepting power. These customers should contact a licensed electrician before FPL can restore service to their property.

Key figures as of 5 p.m.:

  • Over 1.8 million customers have had power restored — that’s more than 90% of those affected by the storm.
  • About 166,000 customers remain without power.
  • Thousands of outages were avoided thanks to smart grid technology.
  • 20,000 workers from 41 states and Canada are working 24/7 to restore power.
  • 25 staging and parking sites are in place across the state.
  • 25 customer relief centers are operating throughout the region.

A message from FPL President and CEO Armando Pimentel: “While we’ve met our goal of restoring power to over 90% of affected customers, we’re not finished yet. We've kept our promise to meet the expected restoration times, and our teams will continue working tirelessly until every last customer has their power back. We’re also focused on restoring power to all impacted schools by the end of the day to help families return to normalcy. FPL remains committed to doing this work safely and as quickly as possible.”

Challenges faced: Hurricane Milton was a powerful storm with widespread impacts that crews are still dealing with as they work around the clock to restore power.

  • Across the state: Communities are still recovering from the effects of previous storms, which compounded the impact of Milton.
  • West Coast: Storm surges and flooding made roads impassable, delaying assessments and repairs. Strong winds and debris caused major damage.
  • East Coast: Severe tornadoes hit Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, with 38 confirmed tornado reports. These were unusually strong for a hurricane, causing widespread damage and leaving tens of thousands without power.

What customers should do after the storm:

  • Safety is FPL’s top priority. Follow local emergency guidelines.
  • Drive carefully. Traffic signals may be out. Treat intersections with non-working signals as four-way stops.
  • If using a generator, follow manufacturer instructions. Never use it indoors.
  • Stay away from downed power lines and flooded areas. Assume they are live.
  • Call 911 in case of an emergency.
  • Report downed power lines to FPL at 1-800-4-OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243).
